Wicks & Wicking
We receive more questions about wicks and wicking than any other item in our inventory. Finding the perfect wick for each size and type of candle that you make is the most time consuming aspect of candlemaking. With the numerous different types of waxes, soys, and vegtable blends out on the market today, it makes the search for wicks even more difficult.
The relationship between "burn rate" and wick sizes is as follows. The lower the "burn rate" the smaller the wick, and the higer the "burn rate" the larger the wick (more plys of yarn). A lower "burn rate" will generate a smaller flame and a smaller melt pool diameter whereas a higher "burn rate" will generate a larger flame and larger melt pool diameter.
To make your wick selection easier, we have put a sizing guide on each wicking in our inventory. Simply check the wicks or wicking you are interested in and you will find a "recommended" size candle chart. Please note, these are only recommendations and there is no guarantee that they will work in every application becaose of the many combinations of fragrances, color and additives. There is no substitute for testing.
